Mount Kilimanjaro (Climbable only from Tanzania)

At 19,341ft Kilimanjaro is the tallest peak on the African continent, and one of the famous "Seven Summits". Anyone who is reasonably fit can climb Mount Kilimanjaro, as it is a multi-day trek with no technical climbing. Porters carry all of the camping, gear, food, tents and luggage. Our trail chefs will amaze you with wonderful food served in a comfortable dining tent.

 

Climbing Options (private or group) :

​

Private climbs - You can climb Kilimanjaro on a private trip we arrange just for you and your group. Please note that other groups from other companies will be sharing the same park-service designated campsites as you, but you will have your own private guides, tents, toilets etc.

​

Group climbs - Whether you are traveling solo or with others, you can choose to join one of our open group climbs to keep costs lower and meet new friends. 

​

Climbing Routes (The best route depends on your time, money, previous experience, fitness and time of the year) :

​

· The Marangu Route - 5 days/ 4 nights : Shorter and less expensive, it is the only Kilimanjaro climb route that offers hut accommodation.

​

· The Machame Route - 7 days/ 6 nights : Allows less acclimatization, and The most crowded climbing route up Kilimanjaro. Accommodation strictly camping only.

​

· The Rongai Route - 6 days / 5 nights : the lowest traffic route on Kilimanjaro.

​

· The Shira Route - 7 days/ 6 nights : this one catapults you to some serious altitude on the first day.

​

· The Lemosho Route - 8 days/ 7 nights (Recommended) : The most beautiful Kilimanjaro climb route. 

​

· The Umbwe Route: 6 days / 5 nights : the most difficult and demanding route on Kilimanjaro, and the most spectacular. 

​

5 Day 4 Nights Trek - Mount Meru

Day 1 : Arusha - Momella Gate (1500m) - Miriakamba Hut (2500m)

  • Pick up from your hotel and drive to Arusha National Park Gate, and then onwards to Momella Gate.

  • An armed park ranger will accompany you while you start your hike.

  • Pass by wildlife (giraffes, buffalos) and enter an acacia forest.

  • Reach Maio Falls

  • Rest and then hike again to reach Miriakamba Hut for an overnight stay.

 

Day 2 : Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut (3550m)

  • Leave Miriakamba Hut and follow a steep track with wooden steps upwards to reach the vantage point 'Mgongo wa Tembo' (3200m).

  • Rest

  • After another hike in which the vegetation changes from rainforest to an airy bush land, you will reach Saddle Hut (3550m) at mid-day and spend the night there.

 

Day 3: Saddle Hut - Socialist Peak (4562m) - Miriakamba Hut

  • Leave for the summit early in the morning.

  • Follow the trail through bush land to the so-called Rhino Point (3821m) in which the path turns into a more challenging trek.

  • Go back down to Miriakamba Hut to spend the night

 

Day 4 : Miriakamba Hut - Momella Gate

  • Hike back to Momella Gate. The descent is shorter than the ascent, but there is still a chance to spot some elephants, buffalos, giraffes as well as black and white Colobus monkeys. 

  • Drive back to Arusha. Overnight at Arusha Coffee Lodge.

 

Day 5 : Back to your hotel.

Sample Itinerary Mount Kilimanjaro

(Lemosho Route - 8 Days 7 Nights : 42.26 Km ascent only, 20.6 km descent)

The Lemosho Route, incorrectly called the Shira Plateau route, is our favourite of the official trails on Kilimanjaro, a lengthy yet gentle (by Kilimanjaro’s standards) trail that offers both exceptional chances of seeing wildlife and a higher than average chance of reaching the summit 

​

Day 1 : Arusha (1400)  to Mti Mkubwa/Big Tree Camp (2750m)

Distance: 7km; Hiking time: 3-4 hours; Habitat: Rain Forest

​

  • After a 3 hrs drive from your hotel in Arusha, we arrive at the strange fortified village of Londorossi

  • Our first day ends with a hike to Mti Mkubwa, the Big Tree Camp (2785m), where, as with every night on the trek, you will arrive to find your tent already erected and a snack awaiting.

 

Day 2 : Mti Mkubwa (2750m) to Shira 1 Campsite (3540m)

Distance: 8km; Hiking time: 6 hours; Habitat: Moorland

​

  • After an early morning breakfast, you will begin your ascent out of the rainforest.

  • Descending a short distance, we arrive at the Shira One Campsite (3540m)

 

Day 3 : Day 3. Shira 1 (3540m)– Shira 2 (3840m)- Moir Hut (4114)

Distance: 15 km; Hiking time: 7 hours; Habitat: Moorland

​

  • Following an early morning breakfast, we embark into a gentle walk east toward Kibo’s glaciered peak, across the plateau.

  • Shira is one of the highest plateaus on earth.

 

Day 4. Moir Hut (4114) – Lava Tower (4600)-Barranco Camp (3950)

Distance: 7km; Hiking time: 7 hours; Habitat: Semi Desert

​

  • You leave the moorland environment and enter the semi desert and rocky landscape.

  • After 5 hours of walking east, you will come face to face with the Lava Tower, called “Shark’s Tooth”. 

  • After lunch, 2 hrs descent to Barranco Campsite.

 

Day 5 : Barranco Camp (3950) - Karanga Camp (4235m)

Distance: 5km; Hiking time: 4-5 hours; Habitat: Alpine Desert

​

  • This is a short hiking day meant for acclimatization.

​

Day 6 : Karanga Camp (4235m) - Barafu Camp (4600m)

Distance: 4km; Hiking time: 3-4 hours; Habitat: Alpine Desert

​

  • After an early morning breakfast, we leave Karanga and hit the junction which connects with the Mweka Trail.

  • Here you have completed the Southern Circuit, which offers views of the summit from many different angles. Camping and resting to prepare for the summit day

​

Day 7 : Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak (5895m) Mweka (3100m)

Ascent Distance: 5km; Hiking time: 8 hours

Descent Distance: 12km; Hiking time: 4-6 hours

​

  • We begin our push to the summit very early in the morning around midnight.

  • We ascend in the darkness for several hours while taking frequent, but short, breaks, we will reach Stella Point (5685m).

  • Reaching the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro is a lifetime accomplishment! From the summit you will spend the overnight at Mweka Campsite.

Day 8 : Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate

Distance: 7.19km; Hiking time: 3 hours; Habitat: Forest 

​

  • After a celebration, our last day is just a couple of hours further now from the campsite to Mweka Gate (c1633m), where those who made it to the summit or Stella Point will collect their certificates.
